LWOB has received a report from its representative in Liberia that the elections went very smoothly and that the public sentiment was very upbeat and calm. Our partners on the ground report that, as expected, this is a very busy time there.
A run-off election between Johnson-Sirleaf and Weah will take place on November 8th.
Lawyers Without Borders has processed several grant applications covering the various aspects ofæitsæælegal capacity building effortsæin the Courts of Liberia. Before the end of the year 2005, LWOB expects to have 1-3 members stationed in Liberia to start implmentation of the projects that are in the final planning and funding stages.
Other projects in development withæpending funding applications include a project targeting the children of individuals dying of HIV AIDS in several African nations and an Asian initiative involving aæprofessional lawyer exchange.
